Porter's Turkey Parentage Calculator works in reverse. Enter an offspring variety you have already produced or want to produce, and the calculator searches for possible sire and dam combinations capable of producing that offspring.

Search by Variety Name

Begin typing the desired variety name and choose it from the suggestions. Select Male, Female, or Either Sex, then select Calculate Parents.

Choose the Offspring Sex

• Male - Searches specifically for male offspring.
• Female - Searches specifically for female offspring.
• Either Sex - Considers both male and female offspring.

Sex selection can matter because some turkey color genes are sex-linked.

Search for Multiple Offspring

Select + Add Another Offspring Variety to search for a parent pairing capable of producing more than one desired variety. Up to five offspring varieties can be entered, and each can have its own sex selection.

When multiple varieties are entered, the results show only parent pairings capable of producing ALL requested varieties.

Number of Parent Pairings

Choose how many pairings to display, starting with 5. Numbered results favor simpler crosses and show different sire varieties before additional pairings from the same sire variety. All includes every eligible mapped parent genotype combination, including split variations. Longer searches can be viewed live or stopped and resumed.

Producing a Variety You Do Not Already Have

Check “Show pairings without using the requested variety as a parent” before calculating. Requested varieties are excluded from both parents.

Viewing a Running Search

View Results So Far shows live results while the search continues. Update Results refreshes the display. Return to Waiting restores the calculating popup. Stop Calculation pauses the search; Resume Parentage Search continues the saved search. Changing the inputs or resetting starts a new search.

Sound Effects

Use Sound: On / Sound: Off to enable or mute short feedback sounds. Your preference is remembered in this browser.

Understanding the Results

Results show possible sire and dam combinations and the calculated percentage probability of producing the requested offspring. When multiple offspring are requested, the applicable probabilities are shown for each.

Results are ranked to place useful and genetically straightforward combinations toward the top. The first result is not the only possible breeding.

Print / Save Results as PDF

Numbered searches print the displayed selection in full. For All searches, the PDF contains only the currently displayed table rows.

The Standard Parentage Calculator includes a Print / Save as PDF feature that allows you to save or print your calculated breeding results for future reference.

After completing a parentage search, select the Print / Save as PDF button to open a printable version of your results.

The saved results include the possible sire and dam combinations, their example genotypes, and the calculated percentage probabilities of producing each requested offspring variety and sex.

To save your results as a PDF, select Print / Save as PDF, then choose Save as PDF from your browser's print destination options. Select Save and choose where you want the file stored on your computer or device.

You can also select your printer to print a paper copy.

Tip: Saving your parentage results as a PDF is useful for maintaining breeding records, comparing possible sire and dam combinations, and sharing genetic information with other turkey breeders.

Removing an Offspring

Select Remove beside an offspring entry to remove it. Remaining entries move upward automatically.

Reset Search

Select Reset Search to clear the current offspring selections and calculated results and begin a new search.

Longer Calculations

Some searches are more complex than others, especially searches for several offspring or when All parent pairings is selected. If the calculator displays Calculating..., allow it to finish rather than pressing Calculate repeatedly.

Standard vs. Advanced Version

The Standard version provides the essential parentage search in a simpler format. The Advanced version adds additional breeding-planning features, including searching by Known Genotype, offspring images, and other advanced tools.

The calculator can only identify varieties and genetic combinations currently included in Porter's genetic mapping system. Mappings may be revised or expanded as additional turkey color-genetics information becomes available.
