The calico has a royal palm base pattern with the addition of a rich orangish-red coloration. They are a much paler colored bird than the sweetgrass types, which have a slightly different genotype.
Genotype: Males (b' b' cgcg nn Rr) Females n- at the Narragansett locus.
They are black winged bronze based with gray, Narragansett and a single recessive red gene.
Unfortunately with their genetic makeup they can't breed completely true, Besides calicos they also produce Red Palms and Royal Palms which will breed true.
Poult color at hatch is basically yellow downed with or without a gray/black smudging down the back. All three varieties look almost identical at hatch.
