The pencilled blue palm has a royal palm pattern with the added feature of unusual vertical swirly patterns running all throughout their feathers. They range from just blue and white to a medium rusty blue tricolor with this pattern.
They are a black winged bronze-based bird with gray, dominant slate, Narragansett, pencilling, and with or without red. They breed 100% true to the pencilled pattern.
But due to the nature of the slate gene, when breeding pencilled blue palms together, 3 color types will be produced: pencilled blue palm (b'b' cgcg Dd nn/n- pnpn), pencilled lavender palm (b'b' cgcg DD nn/n- pnpn), and a regular pencilled palm (b'b' cgcg nn/n- pnpn).
When breeding birds with red in the mix, even more variations can be produced. These include tricolor pencilled palm (b'b' cgcg nn/n- pnpn Rr), tricolor pencilled blue palm (b'b' cgcg Dd nn/n- pnpn Rr), tricolor pencilled lavender palm (b'b' cgcg DD nn/n- pnpn Rr), pencilled red palm (b'b' cgcg nn/n- pnpn rr), as well as slated pencilled red palms in both heterozygous and homozygous forms of dominant slate which will look like pencilled red palms with slate edging.
