The Lilac turkey has been a subject of controversy regarding its appearance. According to Italian investigator Taibel (1933), the phenotype known as Lilac is characterized by a bronze base with homozygous dominant slate mutation, having a genotype of bb DD. The Lilac turkey exhibits a light slate-colored body, pale reddish-tan tail, and a cream or white-tipped slate-colored band. It is a true-breeding variety with no red gene involvement; the reddish-tan tint results from the bronze gene's expression through the slate color.
Approximate Weights: Old toms weigh around 30 lbs., while old hens weigh approximately 15 lbs.
