This calculator interface includes sliders, dropdowns, and interactive buttons for selecting and viewing turkey genetic traits.
Select Genotypes:
Select genotypes for the "Sire" and "Dam" using dropdowns labeled for various genetic loci (e.g., b, C, d, E, N, Pn, R, Sl). These selections determine the traits to be used in the calculations. A basic understanding of turkey color genetics will help in making selections.
Type a Variety Name (Easiest Method):
Unfamiliar with genotypes? Simply type a variety name (Bourbon Red, Slate, Narragansett, Sweetgrass, Royal Palm, etc.) into the Sire or Dam box. A smart suggestion list appears as you type. Click a suggestion or press Enter and the correct full genotype is instantly applied. A click sound confirms success. In mobile landscape mode, a large horizontal suggestion bar appears for easy tapping.

Calculate Offspring:
Click "Calculate Offspring" to generate potential offspring outcomes based on selected sire and dam genotypes. Results include male and female offspring with their phenotypes, genotypes, ratios, and images. A brief popup and sound confirm the calculation is complete.
Click Images to Enlarge:
Click any sire, dam, or offspring image once to enlarge it. Click again to return to normal size. A gentle sound plays with each zoom.
Sound Effects & Volume Control:
All actions now include pleasant sound feedback (allele changes, variety selection, calculate, reset, image zoom, etc.). Use the “Sound Volume” slider and “Mute Sounds” button to adjust or silence sounds at any time.
Genotype Display Options:
Toggle between "Long Genotype" and "Short Genotype" formats for easier viewing. An option is also available to "Hide Offspring Genotype" to simplify the results view.
Offspring Ratios and Percentages:
Each offspring result includes both a ratio and a percentage, showing the expected likelihood of each outcome based on Mendelian inheritance.
Offspring Summary Chart:
The Offspring Summary Chart displays offspring results divided into "Male Offspring" and "Female Offspring" sections, showing images, variety names, and corresponding genotypes. Ratios and percentages accompany each offspring, giving insights into inheritance likelihoods.
Scroll-to-Top Button:
Use the scroll-to-top button at the bottom of the page to quickly return to the top after viewing results.
Save and Manage Favorites:
Use the "Name and Save Favorite" option to store specific varieties. Assign a custom name if you desire for easy identification and quick access to saved selections. Additionally, use the "Recall Favorite" to retrieve saved varieties or "Delete" options to remove them from saved entries as needed.
Reset Calculator:
Click "Reset Calculator" to clear selections, reset images, and remove previous offspring results. A popup will appear to indicate the calculator has been reset and is ready for another selection.
